DUI Checkpoint

Officers from the National City Police Department conducted a “Zero Tolerance” DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in National City on Friday evening, March 6, 2009. The purpose of the checkpoint was for the Police Department to make the roadways safer for everyone.

The DUI enforcement operation was part of the NCPD’s DUI Enforcement and Awareness project, a two-year grant funded operation with the overall objective of reducing the number of motor vehicle injuries and fatalities in National City. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.

The DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint ran from 8:00pm to 11:30pm. Officers made two arrests for DUI, wrote 20 citations, and impounded 22 vehicles for various vehicle code violations.
